Dr. Alvarez has been practicing medicine for 33 years, specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology including cataract surgery glaucoma, lid surgery, and laser surgery.

Originally from Cuba, Dr. Alvarez graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School in 1987 and completed an internship at Ochsner Medical Foundation Hospital in Louisiana. Dr. Alvarez completed his residency at Texas Tech University in 1991 and then began his ophthalmology career as a Staff Ophthalmologist for the United States Air Force.

Outside of the clinic, he is an avid golfer and also enjoys painting and gardening. He has served patients from Central and South America as part of a medical mission team performing cataract surgery. Dr. Alvarez loves spending time with his wife Olga along with their 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. He has recently moved to Florida in order to be closer to his family.

With over 30 years of experience in injections, particularly around the eye, he will be providing anti-aging injections for Velo Med Spa as well as the in-house Medical Director. His love for art gives him an eye for aesthetics and we are just as thrilled as he is to bring his brilliance and talent to our community. We will soon be introducing a fully operating ophthalmology lane for eye screenings, lumps and bumps removal, and other services specific to his field.
