Cellulite affects the vast majority of women at some point in their lives. No matter how consistent you are with diet, exercise, or topical creams, those dimples on the thighs and buttocks often remain. That’s because cellulite is largely structural—not simply a matter of excess fat.
At Velo Med Spa, we’re excited to offer Avéli, an FDA-cleared, minimally invasive treatment that targets the root cause of cellulite for smoother-looking skin with lasting results.
What Is Avéli?
Avéli is a one-time, in-office procedure designed specifically to treat cellulite on the buttocks and thighs of adult women. Unlike creams, energy-based devices, or treatments that only address the surface, Avéli works beneath the skin to release the fibrous bands (called septa) that pull the skin downward and create the characteristic dimpled appearance.
These tight connective tissue bands tether the skin while fat pushes upward between them—creating the uneven texture so many women want to improve. Avéli mechanically identifies and severs those specific bands, allowing the skin to lie more smoothly.
Clinical studies have shown significant, sustained improvement in the appearance of cellulite for at least one year after a single treatment.
The Procedure: What Happens During Treatment
Avéli is performed in the comfort of our office under local anesthesia. You remain awake and comfortable throughout.
Here’s what a typical visit looks like:
Consultation and Marking – Your provider carefully marks the dimples while you’re standing, as cellulite is most visible in an upright position.
Local Anesthesia – The treatment area is thoroughly numbed so you feel little to no discomfort during the procedure.
Precise Treatment – Through a few very small (approximately 2–3.5 mm) incisions, usually hidden in natural creases, the Avéli handheld device is guided under the skin. The device features a light for precise navigation, a hook that captures the fibrous bands, and a retractable blade that releases them. Your provider can feel and see in real time that each targeted band has been released.
Completion – Once all marked dimples have been addressed, the small entry sites are closed (often without stitches), and a compression garment is applied.
The entire appointment typically lasts about 60–90 minutes, including preparation and the procedure itself. Most patients are able to drive themselves home afterward.
What to Expect
You may feel some pressure or tugging during the procedure once the area is numb, but significant pain is uncommon. Immediately afterward, the treated areas may look smoother, though swelling and bruising will temporarily mask the full effect.
Results continue to improve as healing progresses. Many patients notice clearer improvement once bruising and swelling subside (usually within a few weeks), with optimal results typically visible around 1–3 months.
Key Benefits of Avéli
Targets the structural cause of cellulite rather than just the surface appearance
Single treatment in most cases—no series of sessions required
Minimally invasive with only local anesthesia
Little downtime for most patients
Long-lasting results supported by clinical data through at least one year
Precise, verifiable release of the bands responsible for each dimple
Recovery Process
Recovery after Avéli is generally straightforward:
First 24–48 hours: Mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling are common. Most patients return to light daily activities within a day or two.
First 1–2 weeks: Wear compression garments as directed (often yoga pants or similar compressive clothing) to help minimize swelling and support healing. Light activity such as walking is encouraged; avoid strenuous lower-body exercise, high-impact workouts, or heavy lifting.
2–4 weeks: Bruising and tenderness typically fade. Small areas of firmness under the skin may be palpable for a short time and usually resolve on their own.
Beyond 1 month: Most patients resume full activity. Final smoothing continues to refine over the following weeks.
Your Velo Med Spa provider will give you personalized aftercare instructions. Common temporary side effects include mild pain (usually within the first day), bruising, tenderness, and temporary firmness—most of which resolve within 30 days.
Is Avéli Right for You?
Avéli is ideal for adult women bothered by cellulite dimples on the buttocks and/or thighs who want a targeted, one-time solution. It does not treat skin laxity or large pockets of fat, so your provider may discuss complementary treatments if those concerns are also present.
A consultation at Velo Med Spa is the best way to determine whether Avéli is a good fit for your goals and anatomy.
